Privacy Policy

How this website collects, uses and protects your personal information.

This policy explains what personal information the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) collects through the website at splm.ss, why we collect it, who we share it with and what choices you have. It applies to this website only. Other SPLM services, such as membership registration at splm.life, have their own notices.

Who is responsible

The website is operated by the SPLM National Secretariat, SPLM Plaza, Juba, South Sudan. For any question about this policy or your information, write to [email protected] or call +211 916 338 412.

What we collect

When you visit the website

Like most websites, our server records basic technical information about each page visit: the page address, the date and time, your IP address, the approximate country and city derived from that IP address, the type of device, browser and operating system you use, and the page that referred you. Automated visits by search engines and link-preview services are not recorded as visitors.

We use this information to keep the website secure, to detect and block attacks, and to understand which pages are read so we can improve them. We do not use it to build profiles of individual people.

When you contact us

If you use the contact form we receive your name, email address, subject and message, together with the IP address the message was sent from. We use these only to read and reply to your message and to keep a record of correspondence with the Party.

When you donate

Donations are processed by payment providers, not by the SPLM directly:

  • MTN MoMo: the mobile number and amount you enter are sent to MTN Mobile Money so that it can ask you to approve the payment on your phone. MTN processes the payment under its own terms and privacy notice.
  • Card and PayPal: card and PayPal payments are entered directly into PayPal's secure payment window. The SPLM never sees or stores your card number. PayPal processes the payment under its own privacy statement.

We receive a payment reference and the payment status so we can confirm and account for your donation. Please also read our Donation Terms.

Cookies and similar technologies

The public pages of this website do not use advertising or tracking cookies, and we do not use third-party analytics services.

  • Security cookies. The website is protected by Cloudflare, which may set strictly necessary cookies (such as __cf_bm or cf_clearance) to tell real visitors apart from automated attacks. These cannot be switched off without making the site unavailable.
  • Browser storage. To make news pages load faster, the website keeps a temporary copy of recently opened articles in your browser's session storage. It is deleted when you close the browser tab and is never sent to us.
  • Video. The SPLM Stream page shows YouTube videos in privacy-enhanced mode. YouTube does not store information about you until you play a video. Once you do, YouTube's own policies apply.
  • Payments. When you choose card or PayPal on the donate page, PayPal may set its own cookies to process the payment securely.
  • Staff area. The content management area used by SPLM staff uses a session cookie to keep authorised staff signed in. Public visitors do not receive it.

You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings at any time.

Who we share information with

We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for marketing. Information is shared only with:

  • our web hosting provider and Cloudflare, which host and protect the website;
  • MTN Mobile Money and PayPal, when you choose them to make a donation;
  • authorised SPLM staff who need it to answer messages, process donations or secure the website;
  • authorities, where the law of the Republic of South Sudan requires us to.

How long we keep information

We keep visit and security logs for up to 12 months. We keep contact messages for as long as needed to deal with the matter and keep a reasonable record of it, and then delete them. Donation records are kept for as long as the Party needs them for its financial accounts and legal obligations.

How we protect information

The website is served only over encrypted HTTPS connections. Access to messages, logs and donation records is limited to authorised staff with individual accounts, and staff actions in the management area are logged.

Your choices and rights

You may ask us to tell you what personal information we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it where we no longer need to keep it. Write to [email protected] and tell us how to identify your information, for example the email address you used on the contact form. We will reply within a reasonable time.

Children

This website is for a general audience. Donations may only be made by adults, and we do not knowingly collect information from children through the contact or donation forms.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the website or the law changes. The date at the top shows when it was last revised.
