SPLM SG Recieved Minister of Justice to Advance Critical Legal Reforms for National Elections
August 28, 2026
SPLM Secretary General Cde. Dr. Akol Paul Kordit today hosted the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Hon. Dr. Wek Mamer Kuol, at the party headquarters for a vital strategic briefing concerning ongoing legislative developments and the conduct of upcoming national elections.
During the comprehensive consultation, the Minister briefed the Secretary General on the progress of constitutional amendments currently before the National Legislative Assembly, awaiting final assembly resolution and passage. These proposed amendments, along with related bills governing the electoral process, were thoroughly reviewed following deliberations and endorsement by the Council of Ministers and the governance cluster, building upon a consensual framework established by the expanded presidency.
The discussions placed particular emphasis on updating foundational electoral laws, specifically the Elections Commission Act and statutory frameworks related to the national census. Because national census responsibilities fall under the purview of the statistical bureau, aligning these provisions is essential to ensuring complete legal readiness for the electoral cycle.
The SPLM remains fully committed to steering these legislative priorities through the parliamentary process to guarantee transparent, credible, and inclusive democratic outcomes for the people of South Sudan.
