SPLM SG Meet With Greater Pibor Administrative Area Delegation, Calls for Calm and Unity
June 23, 2026
The SPLM Secretary General, Cde. Dr. Akol Paul Kordit, chaired a meeting today at the SPLM National Secretariat with a delegation from the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA). The meeting was attended by the SPLM Deputy Secretary General for Administration and Finance, Cde. Baba Medan Konyi, the SPLM Secretary for Political Affairs, Mobilization, and Organization, Cde. Amb. John Andurga Duku, SPLM Secretary for States Affairs, Cde. Makuch Aru.
The GPAA delegation was led by H.E. Cde. Gola Boyoi Gola, SPLM Chairperson and Chief Administrator of the GPAA, Hon. Cde. David Yau Yau, Member of the National Liberation Council and Deputy National Minister of Information and Telecom, alongside other leaders from the GPAA.
The discussions focused on the recent, unfortunate incident that claimed the life of our late Hon. Cde. Stephen Lowosio Lomongin, commissioner of Kapoeta East County. Cde. Amb. Duku conveyed the Secretary General’s clear directive: calling upon the leadership of Greater Pibor Administrative Area and Eastern Equatoria State to actively contain the situation and maintain order, strongly encouraging the communities living side by side in these territories to reject violence and allow the investigation committee to complete its work.
“The SPLM rejects the use of violence to resolve disputes concerning boundaries or other grievances,” Cde. Amb. Duku stated. He emphasized that the party intends to hold leaders accountable for maintaining law and order, noting that there will be serious consequences for any individual who takes the law into their own hands. The National Secretariat awaits the committee's findings before determining the next course of action.
With the General Elections officially scheduled for December 22, 2026, the SPLM leadership urged the leadership from both Greater Pibor and Eastern Equatoria to refocus their efforts on the critical National agenda, emphasizing that the upcoming polls represent the most important occasion in the country since the referendum.
“We want the SPLM to win this election so that it can reclaim its position as the ruling party,” Cde. Amb. Duku added, noting that the party is currently a majority party but not the ruling entity. To achieve this, the Secretary General directed party officials to mobilize their populations to register as voters in their respective home areas. The leadership underscored that registration must be carried out locally, and individuals cannot register in one administrative area to vote in another; this directive applies to all ten governors and the three administrative areas Chief Administrators across South Sudan.
