July 3, 2026
The Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) Leadership Summit entered its second day, continuing its mission of "Transforming SPLM Vision into Action". The proceedings were chaired by the first Deputy Chairman, Cde. Prof. James Wani Igga, and Second Deputy Cde. Mary Apai Ayiga, alongside the SPLM Secretary-General Cde. Dr. Akol Paul Kordit and his First Deputy Cde. Kuong Danier.
The session commenced with profound remarks from the SPLM Secretary-General, Cde. Dr. Akol Paul Kordit, who emphasized the necessity of maintaining organizational coherence and cooperation. Highlighting the movement’s foundational principles, he called for a move away from tribal politics, stating that a liberation movement is like a religion and is not to be tribalized. He cautioned that members holding tribal components in their minds are not fully SPLM-ised, noting that there is a need to lay down a foundation that will detribalise the country.
A primary focus of the day was the comprehensive review of the reports submitted by the leadership of the ten states and three administrative areas.
These reports encompassing ( Western Equatoria State, Lakes State, Warrap State, Abyei Administrative Area, Central Equatoria State, Ruweng Administrative Area, Upper Nile State, Pibor Administrative Area, Jonglei State, Unity State, Western Bahr el Ghazal State, Eastern Equatoria State, and Northern Bahr el Ghazal State) were presented to the summit. Following their presentation, these reports were thoroughly analyzed, critiqued, and finally passed by the assembly to ensure alignment with the movement's objectives.
The summit brought together the movement’s leadership from the deputies of the Chairman, Secretary General and his deputies, members of the Political Bureau and the National Liberation Council, SPLM State Chairpersons and Secretaries, the Executive and Parliamentary caucuses, and the dynamic SPLM Leagues.
The SPLM remains dedicated to these strategic dialogues to ensure the movement's vision is effectively translated into tangible actions for the benefit of the nation.
