As the party intensifies preparations for the upcoming national event, the leadership of the high committee convened to review arrangements for the 16 May celebrations and discuss current political developments.

Speaking during a press conference at the SPLM Secretariat in Juba, the Acting Secretary for Culture, Information and Communication, Cde. Amb. Jimmy Atilio, stated that the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) will commemorate the 43rd anniversary of the formation of the SPLM/SPLA on 16 May 2026 under the theme: “SPLM Stands for a Peaceful and Prosperous South Sudan.”

He announced that the celebration will officially take place at Juba National Stadium.

Amb. Atilio further revealed that, ahead of the grand celebration, the party will receive the Chairman of the SPLM and President of the Republic of South Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit, on Wednesday at Juba International Airport upon his arrival from Uganda. He called upon all media houses to cover the reception ceremony as a sign of solidarity and respect during this important period for the party.

“We welcome him just as we welcomed him during the liberation struggle,” he said.

He also clarified that the venue for the anniversary celebrations has been changed from the Dr. John Garang Mausoleum to Juba National Stadium due to its central location, accessibility, and suitability for hosting a larger and more vibrant national event.
