SPLM Clarifies May 16 Anniversary Plans, Urges Unity and Accurate Messaging

May 5, 2026

Tuesday, 05 May 2026 – Juba, South Sudan. The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) Social Media Team convened at the SPLM National Secretariat in Juba for a meeting with the Information Committee to discuss preparations for the upcoming 16 May 2026 celebrations, marking the 43rd anniversary of the movement.

Addressing the media after the meeting, the SPLM Acting Secretary for Culture, Information and Communication, Cde. Amb. Jimmy Atilio, emphasised the need to correct misinformation circulating about the event.

He clarified that the SPLM is relying on the support and contributions of its registered members to organise the celebrations. He cautioned against the spread of inaccurate information by non-members, urging the public to avoid creating confusion among the people of South Sudan.

“We want to make it clear that the SPLM is depending on its membership for contributions towards this important event. Those who are not members should refrain from misquoting the party’s position,” he said.

Cde. Atilio further noted that while contributions are specifically being sought from party members, the anniversary celebration remains inclusive and welcomes all South Sudanese to join in commemorating the historic occasion.
