SPLM Mobilises for December Elections Under Chairman President Salva Kiir’s Leadership
September 11, 2026
SPLM Chairman and President of the Republic of South Sudan His Excellency Cde. Salva Kiir Mayardit met with the SPLM Resource Mobilisation Committee as the party intensifies preparations for its third National Convention and the country's general elections scheduled for December.
This meeting comes as the SPLM moves into a broader reorganisation process aimed at strengthening the party’s structures and consolidating its readiness for the upcoming polls.
SPLM Secretary General Cde. Dr. Akol Paul Kordit stated that the party is determined to shift political mobilisation away from Juba-based networks and toward grassroots engagement across South Sudan. “We want to assure our members and cadres that the power is going back to the people of South Sudan,” Dr. Kordit said. He noted that the party's task was to ensure that people elected to represent communities in government are chosen through the support of their own constituencies.
The Secretary General described this shift as a move away from “hotel-based politics” in Juba toward people-centred politics rooted in communities across the country.
Reaffirming the party's unified stance, Dr. Akol declared that the SPLM fully supports President Kiir as the party's flag bearer and the candidate the SPLM believes can deliver peace, stability, and national unity.
The SPLM is continuing to consolidate its structures and prepare for the electoral process, signalling an increasingly active campaign ahead of the December vote. As part of this nationwide strategy, the party’s Resource Mobilisation Committee is preparing for a nationwide and international outreach campaign.
Committee head Cde. Lam Tungwar stated that the committee would travel across South Sudan and engage supporters abroad to mobilise financial and political support as we move towards elections. This mobilisation drive forms a key part of the SPLM’s strategy to strengthen its grassroots presence ahead of the third National Convention and the general elections.
With the electoral timetable drawing closer, the SPLM leadership is positioning the party for a campaign centred on grassroots mobilisation, organisational reorganisation, and renewed support for President Kiir’s leadership.
