CONDOLENCE MESSAGE ON THE PASSING OF HIS EXCELLENCY GENERAL JOSEPH LAGU YANGA

Comrades, Compatriots, and Fellow Citizens,

It is with heavy hearts and profound sorrow that the National Secretariat of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) joins His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit Chairman of the SPLM , the leadership of our Nation, and the people of South Sudan in mourning the passing of our iconic liberation hero, His Excellency General Joseph Lagu Yanga.

General Lagu was a visionary pioneer whose leadership in unifying the Anyanya Movement laid the historic foundation for our national struggle, ultimately leading to the establishment of autonomous government of Southern Sudan region following the signing of Addis Ababa agreement in 1972. While we grieve this tremendous loss alongside his family, we also find comfort in knowing that he lived to see the sovereign flag of the free nation he fought for raised in Juba.

On behalf of the SPLM National Secretariat and cadres across the country and the diaspora, I extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of General Joseph Lagu during this difficult time.

We pray that the Almighty God grants comfort and peace to his family and bestows eternal rest upon the soul of our dear leader.
